Drawn is an open exhibition that celebrates drawing in all of its forms. It encompasses both traditional and contemporary practice, resulting is an incredibly varied exhibition.
I’m not really sure what I expected from this exhibition, but it was a lot more interesting than I had initially anticipated. The range of techniques on show was inspiring. Each of the selected works, was firmly grounded in the realms of drawing, but beyond that, it almost felt like a case of anything goes. There were sculptures and videos, as well as embroidery and classic drawings. I even saw an iPad drawing and an example of “maggots drawing with [a] decaying field mushroom”(!).
The exhibition really opened my eyes to the ways in which traditional practice can be experimented with. It was nice to see traditional techniques twisted into something new and exciting. I would think that in the current artistic climate, this is probably quite a valuable lesson for a photographer (like myself) to take away.
