The final exercise for this part of the course required me to “use readily available images to make a short narrative series of four to six collages based on a recent or contemporary news event”.
The news event that I selected was the EU referendum campaign. After a little thought, I decided to create four collages, the first introducing the subject, the second and third referencing the leave and stay campaigns respectively, and the final collage showing the current, undecided, state of the nation.
Personally, I feel as though much of the campaign has been overtaken by political posturing and it was this element that I wanted to highlight in my pictorial series. Consequently, I decided to focus on the politicians rather than the issues when looking for images. In fact, I found some of the most ridiculous photographs that I could of the key figureheads and then made them the focal point of my collages.
